For the second year in a row Stuver was named a finalist for the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian of the Year Award presented by ESPN. He is the first soccer player to be nominated for this award.
Stuver was a featured speaker at the 2022 SXSW Conference, leading a session titled “Athlete Activism: Using Sport for Social Good."
Stuver joined the EQTX Foundation Board of Directors in 2022. In 2021, he wrote an op-ed in the Austin American Statesman about how harmful anti-trans legislation is.
Stuver joined Athlete Ally in 2019 and has participated in their Playing for Pride Initiative over the years. He also utilizes his platform to mobilize people in opposition to anti-lgbtqia+ measures in sports.
Stuver helps with the 4ATX Foundation, the non-profit arm of Austin FC, working with their Verde Leaders Program, which aims to create a positive youth development program that uses soccer to empower underprivileged students to find success on the soccer pitch, in the classroom, and in life.
The Laundry Project assists lower-income families with meeting a basic need – washing clothes and linens, by turning laundromats into community centers of hope. Laundry fees are paid for while volunteers assist with laundry services, entertain children, and create a caring space at the laundromat.
The Equality Texas Foundation works to secure full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Texans through education, community organizing, and collaboration.
Athlete Ally believes that everyone should have equal access, opportunity, and experience in sports — regardless of your sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. Our mission is to end the rampant homophobia and transphobia in sport and to activate the athletic community to exercise their leadership to champion LGBTQI+ equality.
